‘Anything Can Happen’: Alicia Keys to Host Grammy Awards for Second Year in a Row
Alicia Keys will be hosting the 2020 Grammy Awards, which was just announced.
It’ll be the second time the singer and pianist will host the event, as she did so in February, mainly to positive reviews.
Keys has clearly gone full circle with the Grammys, because in 2002 she won the Best New Artist award and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Fallin” that year. She also won in the category of Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best R&B Album for her debut “Songs in A Minor.”
And the Grammys wouldn’t stop there for the New York-born artist, because she won several more trophies in 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2014.
“From best new artist recipient to Grammy Award host, Alicia Keys has been a beacon of artistry within the music community for more than two decades,” said Grammys president and CEO Deborah Dugan in a statement.
“Last year was a testament to her compelling creativity, and we are thrilled that she will return to the Grammy stage as our host,” she added. “Anything can happen, you don’t want to miss it.”
The nominations for the 2020 Grammys won’t be announced until Nov. 20, but based on the year artists like Lil Nas X and Lizzo had they should be shoo-ins.
And for Best Rap Album, projects like Tyler, the Creator‘s “Igor” have a big chance of being nominated, as does Chance the Rapper‘s “The Big Day,” 2 Chainz‘s “Rap or Go to the League” and DJ Khaled‘s “Father of Asahd.”
Keys also released a statement about her upcoming hosting duties, and she said doing it for a second time was never in the plans.
“At first I did think last year was a one-time thing, but when the opportunity came back around there was no question about returning as host of the Grammy Awards,” she stated.
“Last year was such a powerful experience for me. Not only did I feel the love in the room, but I felt it from around the world and it confirmed the healing and unifying power of music,” she added.
The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards will air on Jan. 26, 2020, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
