Security footage of the former deputy at Stoneman Douglas High School pokes holes in his claim that he heard shots coming from outside on that fateful Feb. 14 day.

Gunman Nikolas Cruz opened fire on people at his former high school in Parkland, Fla., and armed deputy Scot Peterson did not confront him from inside where the bulk of the massacre occurred.

A surveillance video released by the Broward Sheriff’s Office shows Peterson and an unknown staffer walk up to the door around a minute after the shooting began. After the staffer knocks on the door, the two quickly walk away and drive off in a golf cart.

“The video speaks for itself,” the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a statement according to Fox News. “His actions were enough to warrant an internal affairs investigation, as requested by Sheriff Scott Israel on Feb. 21. After being suspended without pay, Peterson chose to resign and immediately retired rather than face possible termination.”

At a February news conference, Israel said Peterson should have “[w]ent in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer.”

“What I saw was a deputy arrive at the west side of Building 12, take up a position and he never went in,” he said.

Social media users have been making their feelings on the update known.

“Scot Peterson you are a coward! How can any adult stand safely behind a concrete wall while students lay dead,” someone tweeted.

“Someone might want to check Scott Peterson’s allegiances,” someone else said. “Methinks he may have been involved in helping Nikolas Cruz. S— just doesn’t add up. #Resist”
