Evelyn Lozada is the latest celebrity to strip for PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign.
Today, the Basketball Wives star, 37, unveiled her campaign, which is winter-themed for the holidays. In the ads, Lozada is sprawled naked in the snow, notably without any kind of coat. The ad’s release is strategically timed as shoppers head to the mall for holiday gifts.
At the ad’s big reveal, Lozada admitted she used to be a fur fan, “I was very much into fur so for me to not wear it, I just feel like I am a voice for the animals and if I change one person’s mind on wearing fur, then I feel like I have done something.”
A video showing animal slaughter changed Lozada’s mind: “You can verbalize what happens to these animals a thousand times, but when you see it, it definitely clicks in—and it did for me,” she said. At the press conference for the ad, Lozada urged other fur lovers to do similar research, to at least get educated so they can make an informed decision.
“I couldn’t see the whole video because it was very, very sad,” said Lozada.
Lozada’s PETA campaign follows one featuring Wendy Williams, who also stripped for “Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur.” “We should all try to be comfortable in our own skin and let the animals keep theirs,” said Williams. “I don’t really think that fur is the mark of success anymore. As a decent person, with compassion, it just seems like the right thing to support.”
Lozada and Williams follow a long line of stars, including Khloe Kardashian, who have given their support to the brand for animal rights. Lozada and Williams add diversity to the string of women featured in the ads, something PETA appears to be wisely focusing on to reiterate that animal protection is an issue for everyone to take seriously.
