John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Become an Instant Meme When Dwyane Wade Crashes Into Them in His Final Home Game; Gabrielle Union Offers Compensation
That’s because during the game, after Wade dribbled up the court, he attempted to make a jump shot and landed square on top of Legend and Teigen in the front row. He also missed the jumper.
Legend and Teigen were seated next to Wade’s wife Gabrielle Union at the time, and a photo of the incident went viral. The memes then followed.
“This should be your Christmas card,” someone wrote next to a photo of Legend and Teigen’s faces squished up after Wade flew into them. “These faces are gold.”
Immediately after the incident, Legend posted a video and let everyone know that his wife was the only one who lost her drink, while he kept his. Union then backed up that claim and extended a dinner invitation to the singer and model.
“@johnlegend did not, I repeat, did not drop his drink. And this is why we are friends,” she wrote Tuesday on Instagram. “Dinner’s on us in LA
PS. @chrissyteigen might be one of my favorite people on the planet #LabPartner #OneLastDance.”
Clearly, Wade’s last home game will be memorable for many reasons.
For one, his team beat the Philadelphia 76ers 122-99, and he scored 30 points. All of his children were there as well, and he received a slew of tributes. President Barack Obama also honored the 6-foot-4 shooting guard in a recorded video.
“I know what you’re going through because saying goodbye to a career that you love is never easy. I’ve been there,” Obama stated.
“In my case, though, I didn’t really have a choice. My knees were shot, so I had to give up basketball forever,” he added. “You, on the other hand, look like you’re still hooping out there, and I imagine it’s a little tougher when you’ve just completed one of the greatest careers in NBA history.”
Wade also spoke about his final home game.
“It’s like, all a body of work, all the injuries, all the surgeries, all the tough times,” he said. “It led up to this moment. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to my last game in this arena, to my last season.”
