‘Love and Hip Hop Atlanta’ Top Cable Show in Black America

Despite the attacks and critiques of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta,” the show clearly has a certain appeal in black America, as it took two of the top five slots in the most-watched cable shows among African Americans, according to the weekly Nielsen survey on Target Market News.

The rankings were for the third week of August, when “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” had a reunion show that attracted considerable condemnation for comments made by cast member K. Michelle, who referred to other women on the show as “old ass Harriet Tubman bitches. That VH1 show was the most watched cable show in the country among black households, with more than 3 million viewers.

“Single Ladies,” another VH1 show, was the second most watched show, with more than 2.2 million viewers. Rounding out the top five were the Kirk Franklin-hosted “Sunday Best” on BET, the season finale of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta,” and TBS’ “For Better or Worse,” which also took the sixth spot.

Showing just how much of the black viewership is actually kids, among the 30.5 million viewers for the week, which was a 10 percent increase over the previous week, Disney brought in 8.7 million viewers across eight shows, including “A.N.T. Farm,” starring China McLain at numbers 12 and 13.

An NFL preseason game came in 24th place, but you can expect the NFL numbers to shoot to the top of the charts once the season starts next week.
