After Earth New TrailerAfter weeks of teasing, Sony Pictures has just released the latest trailer to the Will and Jaden Smith’s action adventure,  After Earth, which hits theaters this Spring/Summer.

Director and writer M. Night Shyamalan is at it again with his latest epic sci-fi journey which spans from humanity’s last refuge on a far away planet, Nova Prime, to Earth, a world devoid of human life after an apocalyptic event destroys it.

After Earth takes place a 1000 years into the future and follows Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith), both have been stranded on Earth after their shuttle crash lands. In order to get help for his severely injured father, Kitai must brave a hostile planet overran with “uncharted terrain, evolved animal species, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash.”

The new After Earth trailer gives us a little better idea about where Kitai and Cypher came from and how they ended up on a ship together in the first place. Initially it’s revealed that Kitai’s reckless behavior prevents him from being promoted in the United Ranger Corps. This must be quite humiliating being that his father is a legendary Commander General in the military organization.

It appears dad and son doesn’t spend a lot of time together because we hear what seems to be Cypher’s wife (Sophie Okonedo) telling him his son is trying to get his attention. Cypher must have taken heed because he and Kitai are sent off with the parting words, “Now go and make some good memories together.”

And memories they will have, as the trailer pretty much flows like the previous one with some additional footage and dialogue. We see a collision, breached hull, G-forces spilling the wreckage all over a mountainous jungle terrain, followed by scenes of Kitai making his perilous trek across the deadly landscape.

After Earth crashes into theaters June 7th. Until then check out the After Earth trailer for yourself below, and also take a look at the promo still above Sony released yesterday showing Katai running through some of those dangerous woods.
