Sacrifice In Your Relationships Can Tighten the Bond and Bring Big Rewards
Rather, we’re talking sacrifices, the giving of oneself, making decisions that impact lives and lifestyles and for the good of your mate, not yourself.
”Sacrificing your happiness for the happiness of the one you love is by far the truest type of love,” an unknown philosopher said, according to Psychology Today.
According to Romantic Ideology, love is frequently described as involving sacrifices and resisting compromises.
To sacrifice is to give up something precious in order to gain or maintain something, such as a valuable relationship or some other worthy cause. As an example, often women sacrifice their careers for their family, while the husband pursues his career.
Others cases of sacrifice include moving out of town to the place of a mate to bring the couple together. The person who makes that move has made a tremendous sacrifice.
The tradeoff for a happy home can be rewarding, but you want to be sure, however, that you make sacrifices for good reasons and that your partner also sacrifices for you. Marriages and partnerships are supposed to be for the benefit of both partners, all the experts on relationships say. Therefore, sacrifices must go both ways.
It’s important also, experts say, that you never feel like you’re forced to make a sacrifice. It must be something that you do willingly, with no regrets and with only the expectation of appreciation in return.
In addition, this is important: Your sacrifices should never compromise your morals or personal values. These types of sacrifices will most certainly leave you with regret and feelings of guilt. Unfortunately, the partner who would ask you to compromise your values may not the best partner for you.
And when you choose not to make the sacrifice, it would be prudent to express why you cannot make the sacrifice. Agreeing to do so when you do not want to would only sour the relationship down the road.
Any relationship you enter into is going to require some give and take by each partner. Be willing to sacrifice, choose wisely in your sacrifices, and your relationship will thrive.
