Top 10 Cities with Highest Travel Taxes

If you’re planning a summer getaway, you might be looking for the best ways to save some cash. Despite your best efforts, traveling to certain cities might cause you to dig a little deeper into your pockets.

According to the Global Business Travel Association, your destination will affect how much you’ll pay in travel-related taxes.

Its research shows that Chicago has the highest overall tax burden in the United States. The cost of dining out, renting a car, and staying at a hotel will cost you more than $40 a day. Not far behind is The Big Apple, which costs more than $39 a day.

The study took a look at the top 50 travel destinations for business travelers, however, these locations are also hot spots for leisure travel.

If you love Disney World, you’re in for a treat. Orlando is one of the 10 cities with the lowest tourism taxes.

  3. Minneapolis, MN ($36.70)

  4. Kansas City, MO ($36.61)

  5. Indianapolis, IN ($36.00)

  7. Boston, MA ($35.32)

  8. Seattle ($35.11)

  9. Nashville ($34.75)

  10. Houston ($34.16)
