“Growing Up Hip Hop” actress Angela Simmons is getting called on the carpet for her “awkward” photos.
The television personality shared a photo to Instagram on Wednesday evening, exhibiting her signature fashion and beauty, but it clearly didn’t sit well with fans. The image showed Simmons dressed in all black, posing in a doorway of an apparent Beverly Hills hotel room.
She wore a long-sleeve top, high-waist leather pants and her signature black tresses, all while opting for an eye-catching makeup look, including a vivid red lipstick.
In one photo, the 31-year-old star posed facing the camera as she seemingly directed her gaze toward the sky. In another, she was photographed looking to one side with her body somewhat slumped as she wore a solemn facial expression.
Simmons wrote in her caption, “If you knew me … you’ll have to get to know me again … I’m not the same girl …. #VirgoSeason ”
A few fans complimented the star on her beauty, but others called out her forced-seeming pose.
“Angela I say this care your gorgeous hun but you trying too hard ”
“I be trying to hard to like her but she be trying so hard. We both gotta just stop trying. Nahhh its a no ma”
“I love her and she’s beautiful but why does her pics look so forced to me. Its like she doin too much”
Simmons, the daughter DJ Rev. Run of pioneering hip-hop group Run–D.M.C., is no stranger to criticism.
In the past, the mother of one addressed social media users calling her out on her supposed attention-seeking behavior, seemingly indicating that she doesn’t care what others think.
In 2016, she faced similar reactions from online critics when she announced her pregnancy with now 2-year-old son Joseph Sutton Tennyson. People apparently judged her for having a child out of wedlock with her ex-fiancé Sutton Tennyson, who was gunned down last November.
“They judged me,” she said during an episode of “GUHH” in season 3. “People are always going to be in my comments, ‘Where’s the dad?’ It’s nonstop. … They think they know me and they really don’t. They have no idea.”
Simmons added on the show, “Of course, I heard a lot of chatter about me having a child out of wedlock. You got to imagine, my son has to look back at this one day, and, you know what, I’m human and it happened.”
