‘What Did I Miss?’: Diamond and Silk’s Praise for Trump’s Work for the Black Community Leaves Many Puzzled
Internet vloggers Diamond and Silk continued their backing of President Donald Trump on Friday when they sang his praises for the work he’s done to assist the Black community. Except several Twitter users have cried foul on their claim.
The social media personalities took to Twitter Feb. 23 to pat Trump on the back for his work in bolstering the Black community, according to them and POTUS himself.
“Enjoyed chatting with our great President, @realDonaldTrump. We love & support the @POTUS because he loves & supports all Americans. He’s done more for black people than any other President in our lifetime. There are those that write history but President Trump is making history,” the tweet read accompanied by a photo of the trio in the Oval Office.
The first reply to the tweet, however, questioned the veracity of Diamond and Silk’s statement.
“Good people what did I miss? What good has @realDonaldTrump done for black Americans? Take pictures with them? Or something really transformational?”
And more statements of doubt followed.
“That’s what I’m trying to understand. Only good I’ve seen him do is for himself or his image. I can’t believe hes made so many believe that he cares about us. I just dont get it.”
“Wrong! Please give me examples of how he has improved the economy. This is still the boomerang of what was done under Obama. The economy is good despite Trump. But do not let your hair down. It is quite high in volatility as a direct result of Trump. Contrary!”
Trump himself echoed Diamond and Silk’s sentiments on Twitter Feb. 25, when he blasted director Spike Lee for declaring of the 2020 election in his Oscars acceptance speech Sunday, “Let’s all mobilize, let’s all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Let’s do the right thing!”
“Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President, who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts, etc.) than almost any other Pres!” Trump replied.
However, The Associated Press reported last year that Trump has taken undeserved credit for the increased rates of employment among Black Americans. After the White House initially gave Trump the praise for lowering Black unemployment, they apologized for misstating former President Barack Obama’s superior numbers on Black employment while failing to make note of the fact that Obama was sworn into office when the economy had plummeted to its most serious crisis since the start of the Great Depression. Meanwhile, Trump took office following the economy’s growth over a seven-year period.
Still, Trump has made some headway on criminal justice reform through a bipartisan deal struck in Congress to change federal sentencing and the granting of clemency to Alice Marie Johnson. But a joint report from the liberal expert pool the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy and non-profit Prosperity Now showed his tax cuts favored white Americans.
