Zoe Saldana is in talks with Marvel to join the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy. The film, part of “Phase Two” of the Marvel cinematic universe, hits theaters August 1st, 2014. Saldana is being courted for the role of Guardian Gamora.

She will hopefully have a much more sensible outfit in the movie. Like many superheroes, she is the sole surviving member of her race, who were wiped out by alien invaders. As a child, she was discovered by Thanos (the purple-skinned dude from the end credits of The Avengers), who raised her as an assassin. Later, she realized that her boss was kind of super-evil, and became a good guy. Her powers include the standard super-strength and agility, plus a healing factor and expert martial arts skills. Presumably, she’ll start the movie as a servant of Thanos, before turning on him and joining the Guardians.
Of course, all of this just further delays the casting question that’s really on everyone’s minds: Who will play Rocket Raccoon?!
